The largest amount ever won on a single ticket in the Singapore Toto game of chance has been shattered, with a winning ticket sold at a convenience store for $32.3 million. The winning numbers were drawn on Oct 2, 2023, and the prize was split among the 12 lucky bettors who matched all six numbers.
The winner was not immediately identified, but the winning ticket was bought online via the Singapore Pools app, the results website said. The Group 2 prize was previously the highest at $19.4 million, split among a dozen winners in the Feb 11, 2022 draw.
In the 2024 edition of the NUS Singapore History Prize, a total of 224 submissions were received across the four languages, a 30 per cent increase from last year. The winner for English creative non-fiction is Shubigi Rao, whose Pulp III: An Intimate Inventory of the Banished Books (2022) marked her third win for a book that catalogues banned books in Singapore. The 2024 award ceremony was held on Dec 14, and was live-streamed online by organiser Singapore Book Council.
Dmytro Udovychenko, Anna Agafia Egholm and Angela Sin Ying Chan won the top three prizes for violin at this year’s Singapore International Violin Competition, which took place in December. The competition saw over USD 110,000 in cash prizes, as well as multiple concert engagements for the finalists.

The Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, has named the National Parks Board of Singapore as a laureate of the 2017 UNESCO Sultan Qaboos Prize for Environmental Preservation.
